Growing recommendations

Cucumber Khutorok is intended for cultivation in open and closed ground, and experienced vegetable growers have adapted to grow it on balconies:

  • With the seedling method of cultivation, the seeds are sown at the beginning of May, and in open ground - from the end of May to the beginning of June.
  • Before sowing, the seeds are soaked in warm water for a day.
  • The soil for planting is prepared in advance. In cucumbers, the root system is superficial, does not take deep roots, therefore, for their full development, they need fertile soil. For this, a cucumber garden should be prepared in the fall: dig up and apply organic fertilizers - rotten manure or compost. If the soil is acidic, it should be limed.
  • The planting pattern is 40x40 cm. The seeds are buried no more than 2-3 cm, sprinkled with earth on top and spilled abundantly with warm water.
  • After sowing and before the emergence of seedlings, the seedlings are covered with a film or non-woven material.
  • Cucumber is a moisture-loving plant, it is especially important not to allow the soil to dry out during the active formation of ovaries and fruits. Water the cucumbers only with warm water. The best option for retaining moisture is mulching the plantings with cut grass. In addition, mulch suppresses the growth of weeds and prevents soil compaction from frequent watering, which will provide the root system with oxygen without loosening.
  • It is not recommended to loosen the cucumbers, as the roots are located close to the surface and are easily damaged. Instead, you can use a pitchfork and puncture the ground 10-15 cm deep.

Regular and timely harvesting prolongs the fruiting period and increases the yield of cucumbers.

Tips for growing cucumbers indoors

At home, Khutorok cucumbers can be grown all year round, the main thing is to create optimal conditions for the normal growth and development of plants:

  • In winter (October to March), the cucumbers will need additional lighting.
  • The place for growing should be chosen on the sunny side (windowsill or balcony).
  • If the humidity level is low at home, it is recommended to place small containers of water next to the plantings. Regular spraying of plants will be useful. But the best option, if possible, is to cover the cucumbers with foil to create a greenhouse effect.
  • It is important to remember that the Khutorok cucumber does not pollinate on its own; it needs bees to form fruit. Therefore, when grown in a city apartment, you should take care of pollination. You can use a soft brush for this.

Subject to all the care requirements, Khutorok will delight you with fresh delicious cucumbers all year round.
