Grapes "Pineapple" refers to varieties of universal purpose. This standard seedling of the famous Isabella variety is a clone of Ferdinand de Lesseps grapes.

Selection history

Pineapple grapes were obtained by American breeders as a result of interspecific hybridization of the popular varieties Vitis Vinifera and Vitis Labruska. The name of the derived grape variety is due to the similarity of the aroma of ripe berries and the tropical plant of the same name. Beginner growers often confuse this variety with the grape variety "Pineapple Early", which was the result of the work of breeders from France. In addition, the grape variety of the same name is known, which belongs to the selection from K.P. Skuin on the basis of TSHA.

Variety "Pineapple" belongs to the category of medium late cover grapes and is well suited for cultivation in the southern regions and greenhouses.

Biological description

Bushes have medium growth. Leaves of large sizes, beautiful shape, grayish-green color. The leaf plate is almost solid, with a bubbly and slightly pubescent surface. The lower part has a dense pubescence. The leaf blade is characterized by a funnel-shaped curvature. Usually, there is an open form of lancet petiole notch. Flowers form bisexual.

Vine ripening quality. Pruning should be done on 8 or 10 eyes. Compared with other isabel varieties, Pineapple grapes form clusters of sufficiently large sizes, weighing up to 350 g, and sometimes even more.

Technical characteristics of berries

The berries are of medium size, their weight can vary from 3.8 to 4.6 g. The standard form is oval. The main color is yellow-green. At the stage of full ripening, the color changes to amber, and in the absence of shading, a light tan forms on the berries.

The pulp of the Pineapple grape is somewhat mucous, covered with a medium-density skin, which is separated by a whole bag. The taste is quite high, with a delicate finish of pineapple. Seeds are large and very easily separated from the pulp. The grape sugar content directly depends on climatic conditions in the cultivation region. Average sugar accumulation rates range from 15% to 19%. Standard acidity does not exceed 9 g / l.

The sensitivity of grapes of this variety to moisture should be taken into account. High humidity can make the ripening of the crop uneven and provoke a significant formation of rot on the berries.

The variety has established itself quite well and has the following advantages, which made it popular among amateur gardeners:

  • yield in the field can vary from 100 to 140 kg / ha, and when cultivated in household plots, about 10 kg of berries can be obtained from each plant;
  • excellent taste;
  • aesthetic appearance of ripe berries.

There are few significant disadvantages of the variety:

  • clusters have a relatively low weight;
  • significantly reduced the transportability of fully ripened berries.

Diseases and Pests

According to the description, the variety has medium resistance to mildew, oidium and gray rot. However, according to most winegrowers, Pineapple grapes can be described as having reduced resistance to damage by gray rot of berries and oidium. The variety is characterized by a fairly high level of resistance to damage by phylloxera and spider mites. It is recommended to carry out preventive spraying in order to protect against major diseases and pests in the spring. Three-fold use of systemic drugs is optimal.
